Coffee + Crafts Kicks Off Today!

Crochet Coffee Cup Logo

That’s right, the wait is finally over!  Today is the first day of the Coffee + Crafts Trunk Show at the Root Cafe here in Lakewood, Ohio!  Today we will get to enjoy the loveliness that Chris Sorensen of Crafty Goodness, Amy Annico of The Cleaner Wiener Dog Soap Company, and Kat Remnick of Haus of Kaboom have to offer!!!

As the organizer of this first time event, I am super excited!!!  Please come out and support these lovely, creative ladies today and while you’re there stay for a raw food dinner.  The Root is renowned for their newish Raw Food Thursdays but even if raw is not your thing they have lots of other deliciousness which includes but is not limited to espresso drinks, hot cocoa, vegan and vegetarian fair!

This is just the begging folks.  Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the Trunk Show will continue with three different artists each day.  Check out this post for more details and pictures of items to expect.

Call for Artists: Coffee + Crafts @ the Root Cafe

What is Coffee + Crafts?

Coffee + Crafts is a four-day-long indie craft trunk show event taking place at The Root Cafe December 15th-18th from 4-7 pm.  Each day three different artists will showcase their unique items to the public in the warm, inviting, and community-centric atmosphere of The Root Cafe.

What we’re looking for in an artist/crafter for the Coffee + Crafts show:

Quality-  No matter what you make, make it well!  You will be asked to submit 3-5 photos of your work.  Make sure those photos are accurate representations of your work so that it shines!

Variety- We want to offer a variety of items at this event, which is why we will be showcasing three different crafters each day of the show.  That means a total of 12 crafters will be represented over the course of the 4 days!  When applying, please indicate all the dates you are available to exhibit your work.  The more dates that you are available, the more likely you will be to be chosen.  That said, you may still be chosen even if you are only available one of the dates.  In addition to having a variety of different crafters at this event, we also want the products that these crafters offer to be different as well.  In other words, this isn’t going to be a show of 12 jewelry artists, or 12 crochet artists, etc.

Cohesion-  Though variety is important, we also want this event to have some cohesion, so we will be looking for items that fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Coffee related (ceramic mugs, coasters, take out cup cozies, etc)
  • Environmentally sustainable (items made from recycled, organic, or sustainably harvested materials)
  • Holiday related (greeting cards, ornaments, etc)
  • Winter apparel

Uniqueness-  If you have ever been to the Root Cafe you’ll realize that it’s not your average coffee shop.  It’s one of a kind, it’s eclectic, it’s…unique!  We’re looking for vendors who embody this.

Outgoing personality-  With only three artists showing each day, we hope that this will give vendors the opportunity to make personal connections with the patrons of the Root Cafe.  Remember that what you do is interesting to a lot of people.  Don’t be afraid to tell your story (about who you are, how you got started, how you make your items, etc).  This is all part of the alour of buying handmade, so don’t be shy!

Sound good to you?

Great!  We’d love for you to apply!

How to apply:
Just email zween.mail[at}gmail.com to receive your application or if you have any questions about the show.  Applications are due by October 31st, so don’t delay!

Coffee + Crafts has it’s own page on this site!

June Events At Cratfy Goodness

Crafty Goodness, our favorite shop for unique handmade items made by local artists, is hosting a slew of fun events this June!

Have you been to Crafty Goodness on Madison Ave in Lakewood yet?  If not, what are you waiting for?!  If you have been to Crafty Goodness, remember that Chris (the owner) is receiving new inventory all the time, so you will be sure to see new items each time you walk through the door.  I was just there for my felt bead making class yesterday and noticed oodles of new stuff since the last time I stopped in just a couple weeks ago.  Chris even added a cute little seating area.  So go ahead, bring your hooks, needles, and reusable shopping bags!  And, as if these weren’t reasons enough for coming out to Crafty Goodness, here’s a list of the fun events coming up…

Drop In and Craft!  Every Thursday from noon-8 pm.  Lots of quick and easy projects that will take no longer than 30 minutes, priced at only $5! Projects include:  Mini Collages, Glass Tile Pendants, Domino Pendants, Button Rings, Button Bracelets, Glass Etching, and more!  Full class schedule here!  Order form here!

Buy Local, Buy Lakewood!  Between now and June 30th, Crafty Goodness is collaborating with 2 other female owned businesses for a shopping event.  Print out your passport here.  No rules, just stop by each store and have your passport stamped.  You will be entered into a drawing for a fabulous gift basket with products from all three shops.  No purchase necessary, but it will be hard not to buy at each shop!

Live music on June 17th!  Local musician Taylor Lynch will be performing an acoustic set between 7-9 pm.

Ears to You benefit, Saturday, June 18th!  Make 1 pair of earrings for $5, 2 for $9 or 3 for $12 and then donate them to Ears to You!  Ears To You was developed by Ruth Crane, a breast cancer survivor, to help other women undergoing chemotherapy fell good about themselves as they deal with their loss of hair.  Ruth feels like the idea was divinely inspired since she really wanted to do something to help other cancer patients in a way that was easy and affordable.  Ruth started the program at the Cleveland Clinic in June of 2008 and has been providing earrings to female cancer patients ever since.

Lakewood Street Sale!  Make sure to get over to Lakewood between Thursday, June 23rd and Saturday, June 25th for Lakewood’s annual street sale.  We will be participating, as will many businesses all over Lakewood, tons of surprises in store!  10am to 5 pm each day.

Cleveland Craft Coalition Trunk show!  This month the Cleveland Craft Coalition is taking our monthly show on the road!  We will be having a “Junk in the Trunk Show” at Crafty Goodness on Saturday, June 25th from noon to 5 pm.  Full vendor list coming soon, but for sure you can count on awesomeness from your favorite CCC ladies:  Chris, Kristen, Nicki and Rhiannon.  If you haven’t fanned The Cleveland Craft Coalition on facebook yet, click here and like us!

Although an official date has not been set, Crafty Goodness will host an “Ears to You” event sometime in late June.  For more info on this great charity click here.
